Welcome. Edgartown News was born from the simple fact that I have ink and Dektol in my veins and I need to write and photograph more than I need air or food, and from my love for this little town where I grew up and raised my family, the town I have left a few times but can't quite shake for good. Here you will find the wanderings and musings, photographs and commentary; the people, places, and happenings - past and present - of a small island town: my home town.

(No) Jumping or Diving from Bridge

I wasn't in the mood to swim today but I was in the mood for exercise and photography so I biked up to the Big Bridge (a/k/a Jaws Bridge) where both categories were easily satisfied. This scene brings back many memories of my long lost youth. I suppose the grandkids will be wanting to do this soon.

File this under "some rules are meant to be broken" ? I'm not sure what the purpose of this sign is if it's never enforced? To absolve the town of any legal responsibility in case something goes wrong, I guess. The problem with this kind of thing is that it fosters the idea that signs are meaningless. Perhaps "Jump or dive at your own risk" would be more to the point while affording the town legal protection. Just a thought.

This youngster needed quite a bit of prodding from various family members...

Big Bridge, bridge jumping
...thinking it over...

....big brother leads the way...

Big Bridge, bridge jumping
...it's a bit like flying...

Big Bridge, bridge jumping
...he's up...

Big Bridge, bridge jumping
...no turning back...

Big Bridge, bridge jumping
...he's off...

Big Bridge, bridge jumping
...to the approval of half his family.
