Twilight, the Best Light

Okay, we made it through another day - one day closer to normal?

The day started off gray, raw, and blustery; remnants of yesterday's rain, but by mid-afternoon the sun was shining and all seemed new and washed and hopeful. I was caught up with indoor projects most of the day but broke out for a walk during the dinner hour and was not disappointed. On some level I could be totally sick of the same-old-same-old; on the other hand, it's a matter of perspective, light, and attitude.

Memorial Day Weekend - Sunday Night Downtown

It was on the cool side when I ventured downtown this evening, but that didn't stop the multitudes from going through the motions, acting as if summer is here, with an enthusiasm that belied the frigid air. But after this past horrific winter, who isn't eager for summer? Eventually the weather will catch up, I'm sure.



Eric is from California and has been working at Scoops for one week. It's his first time on the island, and so far, so good.


These siblings from Boston are 8, 6, 4, and 3. According to mom, most of her friends have four or five children, too. Maybe big families are coming back.


Down at the docks I found a few members of the Jackson clan, including Dennis, holding court aboard the Alison Lee.

It's Official: Summer 2014 has arrived.

Antsy

Feeling a little antsy, also wanting to enjoy Edgartown in the early morning hours - something I haven't done enough of this summer - I headed out for a fast-paced walk down to the lighthouse and back. Early morning Edgartown did not disappoint.

Still hoping to find the time to do a little more writing. In the meantime, I hope the photos will speak for themselves.

Here's one of the things I've been missing by not getting downtown early in the morning: Tom Haddad, holding court from his bench outside the paper store. This morning we had a lively conversation about history and religion. People like Tom, as well as Neal Condlin, whom I had encountered in front of the library and with whom I also had a great conversation, always make a walk through town very enjoyable and well worth the trip.


Does this woman look nervous? No? Well, she should - she's getting married today. Best wishes, Kara, and congratulations, Brad. Have a great day!
