Walk to Lighthouse

Kind of a murky, cool Sunday morning but in my continued attempt to shake off the winter cobwebs and get the blood flowing back up to the brain, while also, since Easter Sunday morning being in a lighthouse frame of mind, hiked the two-mile round trip quite easily. I like seeing people and the activities in town, so my route took me down Main Street and then left on North Water and back again. I like mist and fog for photography, and I also saw at least four people that I know (this will end in another month), so it was a productive walk in a few different ways.

Whiling Away the Hours

Sometimes, walking while talking on the phone makes my brain function a little better and the conversation flow a little smoother, and before I know it, I've walked a couple of miles. And, with my hands-free gear, I can also grab a few photos along the way. Nothing terribly new here - same path, different day, different light.



The Vincent House, widely acknowledged to be the oldest house on Martha's Vineyard. The town clock tower a-top the Beautiful Old Church of Whaling Days is to its rear, over on Main Street. These fruit trees will be popping into bloom imminently.

I did discover one new thing - the recently revamped Edgartown Yacht Club now includes a public observation deck, part of Edgartown's ongoing plan to ensure that our harbor and its views are open to all.

Test Driving a New Lens

A Veteran's Day off afforded me some time to get a few odds and ends done around the house and also coordinated with the arrival of my new Sigma 150-600mm lens, which was put to the test on this gorgeous - and mild - November afternoon. The goal is to be ready for the Super Moon on Monday night. My initial reaction to the new lens? Wow! I think I'm ready.

Antsy

Feeling a little antsy, also wanting to enjoy Edgartown in the early morning hours - something I haven't done enough of this summer - I headed out for a fast-paced walk down to the lighthouse and back. Early morning Edgartown did not disappoint.

Still hoping to find the time to do a little more writing. In the meantime, I hope the photos will speak for themselves.

Freedom



































Here's one of the things I've been missing by not getting downtown early in the morning: Tom Haddad, holding court from his bench outside the paper store. This morning we had a lively conversation about history and religion. People like Tom, as well as Neal Condlin, whom I had encountered in front of the library and with whom I also had a great conversation, always make a walk through town very enjoyable and well worth the trip.
